First Dr Reich scholarship for JMU students awarded
03/26/2026The Dr Reich Scholarship for JMU students writing their Master's thesis at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, established in 2025, was awarded to Alexander Bausback.
Alexander Bausback has been studying at the University of Würzburg since October 2021. The choice of Frank Würthner's working group for his Master's thesis and his excellent academic achievements enabled him to apply for the newly established Dr Reich Scholarship. He was able to prevail against a strong field of applicants and will now receive a six-month scholarship from the Tauber-Dr. Reich Foundation. Alexander received the certificate after a delay of almost three months because he had seized the opportunity to spend some time conducting research in the laboratories of the Indian cooperation partners of the Würthner working group at the IISER Research Institute in Thiruvananthapuram right at the start of his Master's thesis.
The Dr Reich Scholarship
The Dr Reich Scholarship replaces the Dr Reich Prize for the best Master's theses at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, which was awarded from 2022 to 2025. It is endowed with a total of € 4,200 and is awarded to students writing their Master's thesis at the Institute of Organic Chemistry. Applicants must be sufficiently advanced in their Master's programme (at least 60 ECTS) and have a very good academic record (average grade of 1.5 or better). The final selection takes several other criteria into account, including study time and grades in the previous Bachelor's programme.
Interested students can apply for the scholarship twice a year. The deadline is 15 June and 15 December. Further information can be found here:
