Student Representative Conference at the Faculty

10/07/2026

The heads of the chemistry departments at schools in Lower Franconia met at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy.

On Tuesday, 6 October, the conference of the heads of the chemistry teachers’ association (Tagung der Fachschaftsleitungen der Chemie) in Lower Franconia took place at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy. Just under 50 chemistry teachers gathered to listen to fascinating presentations and exchange ideas with one another.

Following the opening of the event by the organisers, Martin Schwab and Prof. Dr. Katja Weirauch – both from the Department of Didactics at our Faculty – Mr. Roland Biernacki provided an update from the ISB. Mr. Schwab gave a presentation on the safety aspects of conducting chemistry experiments in schools. Johannes Böhnlein from JMU’s Central Student Advisory Service spoke about various ways in which pupils can get to know the university better whilst still at school, for example through the ‘uni@school’ programme or the Tandem Days.

The highlight, however, was the talk by Prof. Dr. Matthias Ducci from the Karlsruhe University of Education. Under the title ‘Fluorescence – Exciting Molecules and Pupils’, he demonstrated exciting experiments for the classroom to teachers, students, and other interested faculty members.

We hope that everyone returned to their schools with fresh inspiration – and that we’ll see some of them back at the Faculty soon.
