Information and Support for Starting Your Studies

Starting university marks the beginning of an exciting new phase in your life, one that brings with it challenges in terms of content and organisation, but also on a personal level. We would like to provide you with the best possible support as you make the transition to the JMU.

Mastering the Material

Tutors will help you to work through the content in exercises and tutorials accompanying the lectures and to discuss exercise tasks. The dates will be announced in the respective lecture.

Living, Finances, and Advising

When you start your studies, you will need accommodation. In addition to the well-known accommodation exchanges, the Student Services Association offers rooms in shared flats and one-room apartments in halls of residence.
The Student Services Association also provides advice on financing your studies and is the point of contact for applying for BAföG. You can find information on scholarships and other funding opportunities on the JMU website.
The Student Services Association offers counselling services for personal problems and other issues, such as studying with children. The university's Family Services supports expectant parents, for example, in organising childcare.
Students with disabilities can also contact the Student Services Association for information on services and additional resources.

Organise Your Studies

You will receive initial information about organising your studies on the introductory day for new students. There, for example, your timetable will be drawn up and the necessary work materials (lab coats, safety goggles, etc.) will be organised. Please note, this event is held in German. Introductary information can also be found in the Student Council's International Student Info Brochure.
ASPO/LASPO, module handbooks and examination regulations form the legal framework for your studies and are important sources of information. These are not always easy to understand. For this reason, an information event will be held during the first semester. You will be informed of the date at the beginning of your studies.

Arriving at the university and in Würzburg. The quickest way to do this is on our orientation day for new students. Most first-year students take part and new friendships are formed right away. Please note, the event is held in German.
University sports also offer a great opportunity to settle in quickly.
Students with an interest in politics can get involved in university leadership groups and student councils.
Further events and groups, some specifically for international students, are offered through the International Office.
