Information for prospective students

Welcome

We are delighted that you are interested in studying chemistry or pharmacy in Würzburg. Our university has a lot to offer, from internationally recognized scientists and state-of-the-art equipment to a global network. We are pleased to provide you with more detailed information about the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy and its degree programs here.

Why Chemistry?

Chemistry is certainly not easy, but it is extremely exciting! When you take a closer look at its applications in areas such as pharmaceuticals, biology, materials and nutrition, it becomes clear that there is hardly any other natural science with such a lasting impact on our everyday lives. This is why specialists in this field are always in demand in the jobs market.

You can find a good overview of all that Chemistry in Germany has to offer on the DAAD Website.

Only at the JMU!

In addition to a variety of chemistry specializations taught in German, our faculty also offers specialized programs such as the biochemistry masters degree in English. In the chemistry master's programme, you'll have the opportunity to specialise, choosing from a wide range of focus subjects including medicinal chemistry, supramolecular chemistry or functional materials. This programme will be available with only English language requirements as of Winter Semester 2026/2027.

Further information can be found on the individual degree programme sites. We have also compiled everything you need to know about applications and admissions, as well as offers for the start of your studies.

Why Würzburg?

There is hardly any other place in Germany where you can study in such a well-founded and diverse manner as you can here. This is not only confirmed regularly by our current and former students, but also repeatedly demonstrated by national and international rankings, in which both the university  and the faculty  occupy top positions.

In addition, Würzburg, the capital of Lower Franconia, is centrally located in a beautiful wine region and, with around 120,000 inhabitants, is the ideal size to offer both cultural diversity and a manageable cityscape. Find out more about living and studying in Würzburg.
