Louise Kersting is investigating the sphingolipid metabolism in SARS-CoV-2 infection as part of her doctoral thesis with Prof. Jürgen Seibel, focussing on mechanistic studies of fluoxetine derivatives. In collaboration with virologists and microbiologists, a new target molecule, acid ceramidase, was identified.

She presented these results at the 56th Winter Seminar "Biophysical Chemistry, Molecular Biology and Cybernetics of Cell Functions" in Klosters, Switzerland and was awarded a poster prize for her lecture and discussion with the jury.

Registering for this traditional and renowned seminar, which was initiated by Nobel Prize winner Manfred Eigen, is not possible for anybody. Rather, once a year, researchers who are particularly successful in this field of research are invited to Klosters.
