The winter semester 2012/2013 lecture series of the Center for Nanosystems Chemistry will continue with Professor Nazario Martin, full professor of organic chemistry at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain), who will speak on "Supramolecular Chemistry of Carbon Nanostructures: Concave-convex interactions".

Five universities in Bavaria are supported by the state-wide Joint Project "Solar Technologies Go Hybrid" to explore new concepts for converting solar energy into electricity and non-fossil fuels. On October 17th, the project was officially launched in Munich.

The 2012/2013 winter semester lecture series of the Center for Nanosystems Chemistry will open with Prof. Michael R. Wasielewski of Northwestern University in Evanston with a lecture titled "Artificial Photosynthesis: Solar Fuels to Address Global Energy Needs"

Chemists and physicists at the Center for Nanosystems Chemistry have initiated a new collaboration at the University of Wuerzburg. The aim of their work is to design and produce novel materials with tailored properties for efficient interaction with light. The German Research Foundation (DFG) is funding the project with 2.3 million € over the next three years.

Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn (Université Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg) will give the Siegfried Hünig Lecture 2012 on May, 7th.

"Solar Technologies Go Hybrid" is the title of a new research initiative funded by the State of Bavaria. The Center of Nanosystems Chemistry at the University of Würzburg will receive almost a quarter of the total funding sum.

Gustavo Fernández, currently postdoc with Professor Frank Würthner, is granted the highly prestigious Sofja Kovalevskaja Award, which allows him to set up his own research group.

Sabine Stahl, former apprentice in the Institute of Organic Chemistry, received an award for the best exam in 2010 from Claus Bolza-Schünemann, president of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK).

Florian Beuerle is inspired by the idea of developing novel chemical systems for potential materials applications and has now chosen the Institute of Organic Chemistry in Würzburg to establish his own junior research group.
