Poster Award for Viktor Merz
03/22/2019At the Hasselt Diamond Workshop SBDD XXIV, one of the most important conferences in the field of diamond research with more than 230 participants and 120 posters, the PhD student from Würzburg was awarded one of the two Diamond Poster Awards for his excellently designed poster and the competent discussion with the jury.

In the framework of his PhD studies Viktor Merz investigates functionalized diamond nanomaterials for biomedical applications under the guidance of Prof. Anke Krueger. At the international Diamond Workshop in Hasselt (Belgium) Viktor Merz convinced the jury with his poster on zwitterion functionalized nanodiamond materials. This novel surface modification not only induces enhanced colloidal stability of the nanoparticles in physiological media, but also efficiently prevents the formation of a non-specifically bound protein corona at the surface of the nanoparticles. This is one of the major prerequisites for the application of nanodiamond particles in imaging and targeted drug delivery applications. .
