10/22/2015

The publishing house De Gruyter asked Jürgen Seibel, profesor of organic chemistry at the University of Würzburg, to succeed Nikolaus Amrhein (ETH Zürich) as Editor-in-Chief of the well-established journal "Zeitschrift für Naturforschung C - Journal of Biosciences".

"I'm pleased to be chosen for this honorable and exciting position by De Gruyter publishers and I will do my best in directing the scientific approach of this journal." was Seibel's first reaction. "Very renowned authors, like Nobel Prize winner Hartmut Michel, have been publishing seminal papers in this journal. One example is a paper about the production of the antimalarial drug Avermectin, which was discovered by this year's Nobel Prize winner Youyou Tu."

As editor-in-chief Seibel will be assisted by a team of associate editors and an editorial board of more than 20 scientists.

Jürgen Seibel

Since 2009 Jürgen Seibel is professor of organic chemistry at the University of Würzburg. His research interests are natural products, and in particular, sugars. His team searches for biologically important sugar molecules, synthesizes and modifies them and analyzes their function. Due to the important role sugars play in many diseases these studies might help to find new drugs against cancer, malaria, or viral infections like HIV.

Zeitschrift für Naturforschung C

Zeitschrift für Naturforschung C is an international scientific journal which covers the entire world of experimental life science. For more than 50 years the Zeitschrift für Naturforschung C has been open to contributions on animal and plant physiology, all aspects of biochemistry, neurobiology, virology, and molecular genetics. The Zeitschrift für Naturforschung C has become a widely quoted journal focusing on the characterization and function of natural products.  Studies on the mode of action and enzyme targets of inhibitors, insecticides, fungicides and herbicides as well as papers on biophysical research, particularly dealing with bioenergetics, electron transport, and membrane research are appreciated.
