Double success at the ISMSC 2025 in Kyoto
06/24/2025Jiarong Wu and Rikuto Kanno each received one of only seven Excellent Poster Awards at this major international symposium with more than 700 poster contributions.
Jiarong Wu has been a doctoral student at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy in Würzburg since November 2022, where she is researching photoswitchable imines under the supervision of Jake Greenfield. In the third year of her doctoral thesis, she has now received a poster prize for the third time, although the competition was fierce this time.
With Rikuto Kanno, Jiarong met a familiar face at ISMSC 2025, although he is not doing his doctorate in Würzburg, but at the Kyoto University. Rikuto was recently a guest in Würzburg for six months to conduct research on J-aggregates in Frank Würthner's lab - in the direct neighbourhood of Jake Greenfield's lab - and to expand his methodological expertise in supramolecular chemistry.
The ISMSC
The ISMSC (International Symposium on Macrocyclic and Supramolecular Chemistry) is is renowned as the most prestigious international conference in this field. It was created in 2006 by merging two conferences whose origins date back to the 1970s and has been held annually since then. After Hangzhou in 2024, Asia was once again the host this year. Next year, the journey for the researchers from Würzburg will be much shorter. This is because the ISMSC 2026 will take place in Bordeaux in July 2026.
