W2 Theoretical Chemistry

2x Professor of Theoretical Chemistry (m,w,d; W2)

1x Quantum Dynamics; 1x Quantum Chemistry

The Institute for Physical and Theoretical Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy invites applications for two faculty positions of Professors (m/f/x) of Theoretical Chemistry (W2) to be filled as soon as possible.

Quantum Dynamics - (successor to Prof. Dr. V. Engel)

The professorship, located at the Institute of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry, is intended to strengthen its research profile, in particular in the development and application of quantum-dynamic methods for the simulation of light-induced processes in molecules and molecular materials. The practical focus should encompass the theory of transportation and relaxation processes in excitonic and/or plasmonic systems.

As an affiliation with the university’s interdisciplinary research center the “Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science” (CAIDAS) is planned, the inclusion of artificial intelligence methods such as Deep Learning are expected.

The professor will teach physical and theoretical chemistry in both the bachelor's and master’s programs and should command the full breadth of the subject. Willingness to take an active role in the Faculty’s research initiatives, particularly in the field of light-matter interactions, is required.

Quantum Chemistry (successor to Prof. Dr. B. Engels)

The professorship, located at the Institute of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry, is concerned with the development and application of quantum chemical methods to describe the electronic structure of complex materials such as molecular aggregates and/or nanoscale systems.

The prediction of functional properties should also be in the foreground of the research.

The professor will teach physical and theoretical chemistry in both the bachelor's and master’s programs and should command the full breadth of the subject. Willingness to take an active role in the Faculty’s research initiatives, particularly in the field of light-matter interactions, is required.

Prerequisites

Candidates should have a relevant university degree, didactic aptitude, and a demonstrated ability for scientific research as usually proven by an excellent Doctoral degree, as well as additional scientific achievements, as explained in more detail in Art. 57 Para. 1 Sentences 3 and 4 BayHIG. These additional achievements should be in the field of theoretical chemistry.

According to Art. 60 Para. 3 BayHIG, an appointment to civil service can only be made up to the age of 52. Exceptions are possible in certain cases.

The University of Würzburg attaches great importance to an intensive supervision of students and doctoral candidates and expects a corresponding commitment from its lecturers. The University of Würzburg aims to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and, therefore, strongly encourages applications from suitably qualified female academics. Severely disabled applicants will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications.
