13.9.11-16.9.11 Literature Seminar in Alteglofsheim

Over the course of four days, 29 group members participated in educational and team building activities in and around Regensburg. Half of each day was devoted to lectures presented by group members on various relevant topics such as self-assembly in water, kinetic self-assembly, foldamers, photosensitizers, OFETs, fullerenes, imide synthesis, and graphene chemistry. Each lecture was followed by a thought provoking discussion and an open dialogue amongst participants. Afternoons involved various excursions including a guided city tour of Regensburg, the Kneitinger Brewery (samples included), hiking around Weltenburg Abbey on the Danube River, a bowling tournament, and a tour of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors LED production facility. Evenings were spent socializing and discussing new research avenues at the “hotel” - the lovely Bavarian Music Academy Castle in Alteglofsheim near Regensburg. On the last night the choir from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München performed a free private concert for the group’s listening pleasure. Overall, the group had a very pleasant week and returned to Würzburg with a heightened awareness of current research trends.
