Research
Our research can be largely divided into two main topics:
1. Development of electrolytes relevant for different electrochemical energy conversion and storage applications, with a significant focus on the local structure, the impact of the local structure on ion transport and how this impacts device function. Our work addresses electrolytes for a wide range of applications, including lithium-ion, sodium-ion and solid-state batteries and supercapacitors.
2. The elucidation of structure-property-process relationships and their use to understand component, process or device performance. This research approach has been applied to both battery development and direct recycling of battery materials and has included aspects related to the integration of design for circularity concepts. This work bridges the gap between basic science, e.g., the discovery of new materials with particular intrinsic properties, and applied research, e.g., where the material solutions are integrated into devices and engineering aspects in terms of process optimization must be taken account.
