    Matthias Bremer

    Curriculum Vitae

    Matthias Bremer was born in the small Thuringian village of Rossdorf in 1959. He studied chemistry in Erlangen and received a “Dr. rer. nat.”-degree in 1989, working with Professor Paul von Ragué Schleyer. After post-doctoral research as a Feodor Lynen-Fellow with Professor Andrew Streitwieser at UC Berkeley, he joined Merck, Darmstadt, in 1991 as a lab leader in Liquid Crystal Research. Currently, he is a Director and Lead Expert in the Emerging Displays Department of the Electronics Division.

    Together with two colleagues, he received the 2003 German Future Prize of the Federal President for the development of liquid crystals for flat-panel LCD-Television. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a board member of the German Liquid Crystal Society, and has published more than 80 scientific papers and over 150 patents and patent applications.

    Since 2009 he has been teaching at the Justus Liebig-University Gießen and currently is an Honorary Professor in the Department of Organic Chemistry.
