New paper on selective chemical recycling published!
14.08.2025We are proud to share that “Selective chemical recycling of polyhydroxybutyrate into high-value hydroxy acid using the taurine organocatalyst” has been published in Chemical Science, as part of the themed collection “15th anniversary: Chemical Science community collection“
This publication describes an innovative method for selectively recycling polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), a biodegradable bioplastic, using naturally occurring taurine as an organocatalyst. In addition, enantiomerically pure 3-hydroxybutyric acid (HBA) with 98% yield is attained, suppressing unwanted by-products like crotonic acid. This work is a joint endeavour with the research group of Prof. Dr. Haritz Sardon of POLYMAT. Congratulations to all authors for the accomplishment. Access the article online on the Chemical Sciences website or browse our list of publications to learn more about our recent research.
