New DNA enzymes for detection of m6A

10/01/2018

Our most recent paper reporting deoxyribozymes that detect m6A in RNA was just published in Angewandte Chemie.

Congratulations to Maksim Sednev and all other coworkers on this great work!

Find out about the VM DNA enzymes online: doi: 10.1002/anie201808745

We report on VMA8 and VMA15, two DNA enzymes that cleave m6A-modified RNA up to 5-fold faster than unmethylated RNA, and VMC10, a DNA catalyst who's activity is severely compromised by methylation of the exocyclic amino group of adenosine at the target site (80-150x slower reaction with m6A compared to unmodified RNA).

by the way: our DNA enzymes carry the initials of the scientist who first isolated them in the laboratory: Congratulations to Volodymyr Mykhailiuk, a former MSc student in our group (back in Göttingen)!

Thanks to Julia Halang, our first Biochemistry BSc Student in the group in Würzburg. She transcribed many snoRNAs and analyzed cleavage kinetics of VMA and VMC DNA enzymes.

Many thanks to Priyanka Choudhury, Kate Sloan and Markus Bohnsack, our dear collaborators in Göttingen, for your hard work and continuous support.
