Hermann Neitz was selected to give a talk on light-induced crosslinking of DNA, Evengiia Dorinova presented a poster on RNA-alkylating ribozymes, Claudia Höbartner gave a talk about structures, mechanisms and applications of MTR1 and SAMURI, and Martin Volek presented results from his PhD on the Aurora deoxyribozyme.

135 participants from 25 countries took part in the Symposium on the Chemistry of Nucleic Acid Components (SCNAC) from June 8 to 13, 2025.

Since its foundation in 1969, the SCNAC has gained a worldwide reputation as a leading scientific conference on synthetic, bioorganic and medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, chemical biology and nanotechnology of nucleobases, nucleosides, nucleotides and nucleic acids. Prof. Michal Hocek from the IOCB Prague invited his international research colleagues to the World Heritage City of Cesky Krumlov in 2025.

Host Prof. Hocek commented: "It is always a great pleasure and honor to host this prestigious symposium and welcome top scientists in our field to the Czech Republic. In addition to excellent scientific presentations and discussions, this conference is special with its friendly and inclusive atmosphere and rich social program, including a conference dinner in historical costumes perfectly suited to the medieval venue of the meeting."

In addition to the SCNAC program of plenary lectures, invited talks by young scientists, short oral presentations and a poster session, our representatives at the symposium took advantage of the opportunity to exchange ideas and strengthen cooperation between participants from different regions. We look forward to the next SCNAC in 2028.
