W3 Macromolecular Chemistry

Full Professor of Macromolecular Chemistry (W3)

The Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy of the Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg (Germany) invites distinguished individuals with a PhD and Habilitation or equivalent qualification to apply for the tenured faculty position of a Full Professor of Macromolecular chemistry (W3) to be filled as soon as possible.

The Professorship

We are seeking for an internationally recognized scientist working in the field of macromolecular chemistry and macromolecular materials, e.g. the synthesis of biobased or biocompatible polymers, biohybrid materials and the control and analysis of molecular interactions for functional use in chemistry, biology and medicine. Together with the chair of “Chemical Technology for Material Synthesis” and the chair of “Functional Materials in Medicine and Dentistry” the chair will also be one of the three directors of the newly-founded “Institute for Functional Materials and Biofabrication IFB”. A willingness to take an active role in ongoing and planned collaborative projects within the faculty, with the University Hospital and external research centers such as the “Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC” and the “German Plastics Center SKZ” is required.

We will consider candidates with an impactful research portfolio, as evidenced by an outstanding funding and publication record. The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching of macromolecular chemistry (Bachelor and Master degree programs). The University of Würzburg attaches great importance to excellence in the supervision of students and doctoral candidates and expects high levels of engagement from teaching staff.

Candidates are expected to have a relevant university degree, high pedagogical aptitude, and a demonstrated ability for scientific research as usually proven by an excellent Doctoral degree, in addition to a Habilitation or proof of equivalent scientific achievements and independence in the field of macromolecular chemistry (e.g. through a successful Junior or Assistant Professorship or equivalent performance in a non-university setting). According to Article 10 paragraph 3 of the Bavarian University Personnel Act, an appointment to civil service can only be made to a candidate under the age of 53. However, exceptions are possible in urgent cases.

The University of Würzburg aims to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore strongly encourages applications from suitably qualified female academics. Severely disabled applicants will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications.
