Professor of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry (chair, W3, m/f/x)

In der Fakultät für Chemie und Pharmazie der Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg ist am Institut für Pharmazie und Lebensmittelchemie eine Professur (W3) für Pharmazeutische und Medizinische Chemie als Nachfolge für  Prof. U. Holzgrabe (m/w/d) zum 01.07.2022 im Beamtenverhältnis auf Lebenszeit zu besetzen.

The Professorship

The professorship is located at the Institute of Pharmacy and Food Chemistry and is intended to strengthen its research profile, in particular in synthetic medicinal chemistry at the interface of chemical biology. Expertise in AI-based drug discovery along with a strong foundation in synthesis is welcome. Willingness to take an active role in ongoing and planned collaborative projects including drug discovery is expected.

The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching of Pharmacy in the subjects Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Analytics according to the federal law for the education of pharmacists. The University of Würzburg attaches great importance to excellence in the supervision of students and doctoral candidates and expects high levels of engagement from teaching staff. Teaching must be done in German.



Candidates are expected to have a relevant university degree, preferably in pharmacy, high pedagogical aptitude, a demonstrated ability for scientific research generally proven by an excellent doctoral  degree  in  addition  to  a  Habilitation  or  proof  of  equivalent  scientific  achievements,  and independence in the field of pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry (e.g. through a successful Junior or Assistant Professorship or equivalent performance in a non-university setting). According to Article 10  paragraph  3  of  the  Bavarian  University  Personnel  Act,  an  appointment  to  civil  service  can  only be made to a candidate until the age of 52. However, exceptions are possible in urgent cases. The University of Würzburg aims to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore, strongly encourages applications from suitably qualified female academics. Severely disabled applicants will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications.
