Facts about the Shanghai Ranking

To assess the research output of universities, the Center for World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University uses six parameters. They include the number of Nobel Prize winners and scientists who have received other high-caliber awards, the number of articles published in “Nature” and “Science”, and the number of highly-cited researchers. On the basis of these criteria the Shanghai Ranking compares about 1,500 universities; the results of the top 1000 are published annually.

Results of other rankings

Individual rankings reflect only some segments of JMU’s performance. Alongside the aforementioned areas, other subjects also constantly achieve very good results in rankings. Psychology, Biology, Medicine, Pharmacy, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, German Studies, and Educational Science, for example, have all got high scores /have all scored high in rankings produced by the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE, Gütersloh, Germany). In a comparison conducted by the German news magazine Focus, the subjects Biology, Psychology, and Medicine likewise passed with flying colors.
