Rain, lasers and salad: AK Fischer wins the IPTC challenge cup
07/19/2024Despite the rain, the IPTC barbecue summer party 2024 was entertaining with a surprising competition winner

At this year's Institute summer party, the coveted IPTC Challenge Cup, which is won every two years in a thrilling competition between the Institute's working groups, was awarded for the first time. Traditionally, the teams compete against each other in the disciplines of “laser golf”, “tug-of-war” and “best salad”. Unfortunately, the tug-of-war had to be canceled this year due to rainy weather, so the participants in laser golf and the competition for the best salad had an exciting comparison.
The Fischer team secured victory in laser golf with unbeatable times, leaving the Hertel and Brixner spectroscopy teams and the winners of the 2022 competition from the Mitric theory team far behind.
“We had a lot of fun at the summer festival and were proud to win the trophy for the first time for the AK Fischer ... but we weren't surprised,” said Emil Karaev with a twinkle in his eye. Lilith Wohlfart added: “Emil had been practising laser golf for weeks in advance and always went to the cellar in secret. He then surprised us all with his performance.”
The trophy will now stay with AK Fischer for two years and will be hotly contested again at the next summer party in 2026. We would like to congratulate AK Fischer and look forward to challenging the defending champions in two years' time.
