For Students
Are you looking for an exciting Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD project? Are you interested in fundamental research at the interface of laser optics, chemistry and physics?
If so, we would be happy to hear from you and discuss possible research projects. Join a young and highly motivated research team that explores new dynamical phenomena, develops state-of-the-art experimental techniques, and performs challenging experiments at the forefront of modern science.
Our research topics include, among others:
- Investigating structural dynamics in functional molecules and quantum materials with femtosecond time resolution.
- Controlling phase transitions as well as magnetic and ferroelectric order through the excitation of lattice vibrations by intense, ultrashort mid-infrared light pulses.
Our research relies on a range of cutting-edge experimental instruments, some of which are designed and built in-house and continuously refined. This enables us to perform novel experiments and uncover previously unexplored phenomena.
As a student in our group, you will work on current research problems as part of our growing team. Depending on the project, this may involve building a new experimental setup, studying an exciting material system, acquiring and analyzing data, or developing software and simulations. You will be an integral part of the research group.
Feel free to stop by for an informal discussion, or send a short email with the subject line “Project inquiry” to gerrit.horstmann@uni-wuerzburg.de. We look forward to hearing from you!
