Poster Prize for Stefanie Herbst
10/20/2015At the “Kármán Conference“ with the topic “From Molecular Materials to Complex Adaptive Molecular Systems“ in Vaals (Netherlands), Stefanie Herbst, doctoral candidate at the Würthner group, was awarded with one of two prizes for an outstanding poster presentation.
The poster with the title „Fluorescent Liquid Crystal Based on Bay-substituted Perylene Bisimide“ (of S. Herbst, P. Leowanawat, M. Lehmann und F. Würthner) shows the synthesis of a tetra bay-substituted PBI with free imide positions. Concentration- and temperature dependent UV/Vis studies could confirm the formation of J-aggregates. Intensive investigations by POM, DSC and X-ray showed the liquid crystallinity of this PBI and the formation of a new type of columnar arrangement.
