So much snow

Large snowflakes swirled through the cold air. Overnight, the city had undergone a complete transformation. The night before, the streets had been wet with rain, but the next morning, a thick, glittering layer of snow covered the rooftops, cars and sidewalks.
The snow turned the usual trip to university into an adventure for everyone: buses were late or cancelled altogether, trams came to a standstill and long traffic jams formed on the streets. Cars slid cautiously across the snow-covered roads while people trudged through the snow, scarves pulled tight around their faces. Some spectroscopists arrived at the lab completely soaked and late, while others eventually gave up and turned back. Those who successfully made their way through the snow were greeted by a multitude of snowmen, and a big snow fight (no casualties).
