THE HÖBARTNER GROUP: ORGANIC AND BIOMOLECULAR CHEMISTRY

Sarah Christopher at the EMBL Event ‘The Epitranscriptome’ in Heidelberg

10/30/2025

With its focus on RNA modifications and the opening of new perspectives for therapeutic manipulations in mammalian systems, ‘The epitranscriptome’ is the most established conference series on this topic. For Sarah, this is a great opportunity to present the state of research in the Höbartner working group and to learn about the latest findings in this field of science.

It's great to be part of something big: Sarah at the EMBO-Workshop in Heidelberg

With a packed three-day programme featuring scientists from around the world, Heidelberg became the hotspot of the Epitranscriptome research field from 28 to 30 October. The discussions Sarah was able to engage in on site were as diverse as the participants themselves. There was lively exchange about her poster ‘In vitro selection of ribozymes for fluorescent labelling of RNA that contains epitranscriptomic modifications’, which presents the current state of research based on her doctoral thesis. Most of the researchers worked on applications of epitranscriptomic modifications in living organisms, so it was good to get insights for potential practical applications of her in-vitro research.

The workshop was initiated by the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). EMBL is an intergovernmental organisation with more than 80 independent research groups covering the spectrum of molecular biology. The Heidelberg site impresses also with its famous advanced training centre building inspired the DNA double helix, its transparency, openness and the symbiosis of science and nature. Heidelberg is the headquarters of the EMBL and the organisation's main laboratory.
