Maria Greve and Hsuan-Ai Chen at the Symposium of Advances in Structural Analysis of Biomolecules
10/24/2025PhD students Maria Greve and Hsuan-Ai Chen represented the Höbartner group at the 25th anniversary Symosium celebrating ChemBioChem and ChemPhysChem in Berlin on October 23-24.
Hsuan-Ai was selected to present her work “Structure and Catalysis of the Alkyltransferase Ribozyme SAMURI” via oral communication and Maria received a lot of positive feedback and suggestions during the poster session on the topic “NMR and fluorescence spectroscopy of new RNA aptamer-ligand-complexes.”
The celebrative event brought together more than 80 scientists globally. In the symposium, the latest development and various applications of different biophysical techniques were exchanged, such as ultra-high resolution fluorescence microscopy, dynamic measurements using molecule-level Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) for biomolecules and racemic protein crystallography. Maria is especially impressed by the new way of fluorophore modification to enhance the photophysical properties. Hsuan-Ai learnt many new methods for structural investigation of macromolecules and was inspired by the logical design in protein evolution, which might be translatable to our own research in nucleic acid chemistry.
