Hsuan-Ai Chen at the DESY photon science users’ meeting

The annual user meeting of DESY and EuXFEL takes place every year in January for one week. The focus of this year includes the breakthrough of the X-ray lasing technique (XFEL), the planned upgrade of the PETRA storage ring and the new possibility the new synchrotron can offer (DESY). This year, the meeting brought together more than 1000 participants from all over the world and more than 330 posters were presented with inspiring exchanges. The 23 parallel satellite workshops, covering X-ray imaging, scattering and spectroscopy, offered practical and theoretical information for both experienced and potential users.

The Höbartner group has been an active user at DESY for more than 5 years. This year, Hsuan-Ai shared her research on the crystal structure of SAMURI - the SAM-analogue utilizing ribozyme discovered in the Höbartner lab - by a poster presentation. Besides, Hsuan-Ai attended both plenary sessions and various satellite workshops to gain more insight of different research tools accessible in DESY and EuXFEL. In additional to many useful discussions with the beamline scientists and other users, she was very impressed by all the most forefront experiments in physics, material sciences and quantum computing that are only possible in advanced facilities like DESY or EuXFEL.
