THE HÖBARTNER GROUP: ORGANIC AND BIOMOLECULAR CHEMISTRY

Congratulations, Evgeniia, on winning a poster prize at GDCh Biochemistry 2026

03/30/2026

From 16 to 18 March 2026, Würzburg hosted the conference of the GDCh Biochemistry Division. Under the theme “From chemical structures to biological functions”, around 100 scientists from Germany and abroad gathered at the Hotel Melchior Park. The award presented at the conference recognises Evgeniia’s work “Alkyltransferase Ribozymes for Site-specific N4-Cytidine Alkylation”.

Poster awards for Stefan Jungwirth (Würzburg), Felix Veitl (Freising) and Evgeniia Dorinova (Würzburg). The prizes were presented by Andrea Rentmeiser (Munich) on behalf of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Kathrin Lang (Zurich, Switzerland) as representative of the GDCh Biochemistry Division, and Laura Woodward-Heni on behalf of Wiley (from left to right).

The three-day programme of Biochemistry 2026 covered a wide range of topics, from synthetic peptide chemistry and enzyme engineering to chemical biology tools, structural biology and nucleic acid chemobiology. Seven thematic sessions provided space for 25 presentations, as well as a poster session with 39 contributions.

Beyond the presentations and posters, the conference was also a genuine meeting place. The poster sessions and breaks were used for lively discussions and networking among peers. The informal exchanges were often just as productive as the presentations themselves.

Particularly impressive was the mix of established professors, early-career group leaders, postdoctoral researchers and motivated PhD students. For the Höbartner group, the conference – with Prof. Höbartner as co-organiser and host on site – was a particular highlight.

A conference of this calibre would be unthinkable without generous support. The Biochemistry Division extends its heartfelt thanks to all sponsors and exhibitors for their commitment. Our thanks also goes to the local organising team led by Sabine Meyer, remotely supported by the GDCh Conference Management team, and to the highly committed staff of Hotel Melchior Park.
